View from Tonto Bridge State Park One of our favorite places to spend the afternoon is Tonto Natural Bridge. It's wonderfully cool in the summer and a great place for a picnic and a hike.

Looking to throw a line in the water? Visit the Arizona Dept of Fish and Game for fishing spots in Rim Country

Take the kids to Payson's Green Valley Park for a little fishing and fun. With three lakes and 45 acres of recreation area, the park is located at the west end of Main Street in Payson.


Here's a 'novel' idea, while you are at Green Valley Park visit famed western writer Zane Grey's cabin sponsored by the Northern Gila County Historical Society.

Payson is home to many great Antique Stores. Start on Main Street and work your way up and down the many great stores and galleries.

Once you are back in Pine continue looking for Antiques along Hwy 87 and Hardscrabble Road. You never know what you'll find!

The Mogollon Rim Area is rich with history . The Shoofly Indian Ruins Archeaology Site is north of Payson on Hwy 87 at Houston Mesa Road. Turn east and drive a short distance to this ancient village inhabited by tribes related to the Hohokam and Salado and dating from 1000 to 1250AD.

For a little more recent history, visit the Pine Strawberry Schoolhouse. Built in 1884, it is the oldest standing schoolhouse in Arizona.


Stop bythe Pine Strawberry Museumfor a view of rural life in area settled in 1889.
